Miranda did not put adventure on her Christmas list, but thanks to her eighty-five-year-old neighbor Joy, that's exactly what she's getting this year. When Joy tells Miranda that she plans to drive an old RV decked out in Christmas decorations from their Chicago neighborhood to her new retirement digs in Phoenix--in the dead of winter, no less--the much younger Miranda insists that Joy cannot make such a trip by herself. Unemployed and facing foreclosure, Miranda feels she has nothing to lose by packing a bag and heading off with Joy toward Route 66. But Joy has a hidden agenda for their Christmas joyride--one that could derail the whole venture.

No one captures the heartwarming fun of the Christmas season quite like Melody Carlson. Fasten your seat belt, because it's going to be an exciting ride!

What a charming, heartwarming Christmas novella, that will really get you in the Christmas spirit. It is one of the most memorable road trips down Route 66, that you will read, not for high drama, but just for the kindness of strangers.

For you see, Joy is a complete inspiration to us all, she is 85 years old, and has her own website Christmas Joy. She ran a competition to offer to spread Christmas to people most deserving of it She picked 6 winners, and plans to go on a road trip from Chicago to Phoenix (where she will be moving into an assisted living facility), stopping off along the way to deliver the prizes in person.

Her plan is to drive it, in her RV that has already been decorated for Christmas, and she guilts her younger neighbour Miranda into coming along. Miranda hasn't really got anything to stay home for this Christmas so agrees to come along.

It's the various stops on the trip that really got to me, all of the winners, had different reasons for wanting some help in celebrating Christmas, and Joy tailor made each set of decorations, and extras to the relevant circumstances.

I could really picture everything very clearly, and loved the idea of the two women on a road-trip down Route 66, which I believe is a famous highway in the States, stopping at RV parks, and just generally having a great time, playing at Santa.

The book does have a slight theme of faith running through it too, but although that is the sort of topic that would normally put me off, in this case, it didn't really bother me, and I can accept a bit of religion in a Christmas book, especially one trying to show the true meaning of Christmas.

The Christmas Joy Ride, is very easy to read, and for the story, seemed the perfect length. I have a feeling this book may just stick with me for a while, over this Christmas season. If you are looking for a book to make you feel Christmassy or just to remind you about the generosity of human spirit, then look no further than The Christmas Joy Ride.

Thank you to Revell and Netgalley for this review copy. This was my honest opinion.
